He will draw near to you
when you draw near to Him.
Of that you do not know,
He will tell you things.
In your innermost ear, anew
He will whisper.
Lo, He will lead and guide you
and teach you to prosper.
In your distress, oh
He will comfort you.
He cares—Do you not know?
His sparrows do.
Underneath are the everlasting arms.
His words are true.
He is the bright morning star
by Whom dark thoughts are overruled.
Into the deepest pit He went
. . . from a tree He had watched grow.
Then out He came! . . . in triumph left . . .
soon sent His Spirit back from home.
Be sure He is coming back
and nothing will keep Him away.
Each solemn minute He stacks
between your tears each day . . .
. . . making a ladder, strong
like a carpenter would . . .
and, wanting none lost
He asks you . . . rest on His bosom . . .
. . . the stone, aside of the tomb,
it warms in rays of sun . . .
and by this warmth you exude
to Him others may come.

Climb to the treasure house of blessing
on the ladder made of divine promises.
By a promise as by a key
open the door to the riches of Gods grace and favor.
God comforts us in all our afflictions
so that we may be able to comfort them which are in trouble,
by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
And now, little children, abide in him;
that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence,
and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
1 John 2:28
Elisha prayed, and said, Lord,
I pray thee,
open his eyes, that he may see.
2 Kings 6:17
This is the prayer we need to pray for ourselves and for one another,
Lord, open our eyes that we may see;
for the world all around us, as well as around the prophet,
is full of the horses and chariots of God,
waiting to carry us to places of glorious victory.
And when our eyes are thus opened, we shall see in all events of life,
whether great or small, whether joyful or sad, a chariot for our souls.
Everything that comes to us becomes a chariot the moment we treat it as such;
and, on the other hand, even the smallest trial may be a Juggernaut car to crush us
into misery or despair if we consider it.
It lies with each of us to choose which they shall be.
It all depends, not upon what these events are, but upon how we take them.
If we lie down under them, and let them roll over us and crush us,
they become Juggernaut cars, but if we climb up into them, as into a car of victory,
and make them carry us triumphantly onward and upward,
they become the chariots of God.

Juggernaut Definition 1
Juggernaut Definition 2
Show me wherefore thou contendest with me.
Afflictions are often the black folds
in which God doth set the jewels of His children's grace,
to make them shine the better.
God trains His soldiers, not in tents of ease and luxury,
but by turning them out
and using them to forced marches and hard service.
He makes them ford through streams,
and swim through rivers and climb mountains,
and walk many a weary mile with heavy knapsacks on their backs.
Well, Christian, may not this account for the troubles
through which you are passing?
Is not this the reason why He is contending with you?

After reading C.H. Spurgeon's sermon excerpts, above, and the book of Job
could we conclude that the only temptation that we should be tempted by
is the temptation to not feel sorry for ourselves?
(I made the comment to Sam, and he said I should share it.)
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us,
let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

A cloud of butterflies,
seen as delicate, fragile, vulnerable,
enjoins a heart to rise
above what it is capable
of doing; and to fly beyond sight
on a breeze or a wind unstoppable.

Come Now, And Go
it is time to go now -
We are almost there.
If you hear this,
listen to it -
. . . helping us,
they are urging us,
strengthening our souls;
must now believe,
respond now, and go
. . . listening,
shedding needless loads,
